It goes without saying that metallurgy always plays a very important role in the development of the Russian industry. It is because of such important value that metallurgy is for the country’s development in general. The industry is largely affects the welfare of the state and its citizens, the country’s defense capability and security of its most important resources.
The development of metallurgy in Russia was unevenly. So, the XVIII century is known as a century of great rise of mining and metallurgical industry. In the XVIII century the foundations of the science of metal were laid, the first technical schools - primary, secondary and tertiary - for preparation of qualified personnel of the mining and metallurgical business were established.
There were rises and leaps of development, as well as periods of sharp decline. For example, there was a certain slowdown in industrial growth in Russia on the eve of the First World War in comparison with the end of the XIX century.
The fifth five-year plan was fulfilled ahead of schedule. During the years of the five-year plan were built and put into force 3.2 thousand of new industrial enterprises, including blast furnaces in Cherepovets, on Orsko-Chalilovskiy works pipe-rolling and metallurgical plants in Transcaucasia; mine in the Donbass, Kuzbass, Karaganda, in the Pechora coal basin; Berezniki potash and Novokuibyshevsk oil refinery plants .
The volume of industrial production for seven years (1959 - 1965) was increased by 84% instead of emerging 80% (the enterprise of group «B» plan is not fulfilled); about 5,47 thousand new large industrial enterprises were built. The greatest success was associated with the accelerated development of the oil and gas industry, the introduction of automation, construction giants of metallurgy and electric power industry. One after another were put into operation new objects on the metallurgical enterprises of the Urals and Cherepovets, the Novotulskiy and Novolipetsk plants. Kachkanarsky mining and processing integrated plant, Barnaul tire and Shchekino region chemical, Soligorsk potash industrial complexes were put into operation.
